Living with eleven Hungarian Vizsla puppies between two and four weeks old is pure magic — exhausting, heart-melting, and unforgettable all at once.
At around two weeks, everything begins to change. Little eyes slowly open, revealing the most beautiful soft shades — curious, gentle, and already full of expression. Their ears open too, and suddenly the world becomes a much bigger, more interesting place. You can almost see the moment they realise there’s more than just mum and milk.
Day by day, their movements become more coordinated. What starts as wobbly little steps quickly turns into confident toddling. By four weeks old, they’re running, tumbling, and playing with each other — tiny Vizslas discovering their strength, personalities, and bravery. At first, they’re cautious, almost unsure of their own legs… then suddenly they’re bold, charging forward like they’ve been doing it forever. It’s impossible not to smile watching that confidence grow.
This stage is also when we gently begin teaching them to eat from a plate — warm milk, lots of mess, and plenty of curiosity. Faces go straight in, paws follow, and before long they’re proudly lapping away like big dogs. Alongside this, regular nail trimming becomes important. Those tiny sharp nails can hurt Phoebe while she’s feeding, so keeping them short helps keep mum comfortable and relaxed.
And then there’s the puppy breath — that sweet, milky smell that somehow makes everything feel calm, even on the busiest days. They’re unbelievably beautiful at this age: soft coats, round bellies, and expressions that change by the minute.
Night-time is surprisingly kind to us. They settle well and let us sleep, but by 8am sharp they are very hungry and very ready to let us know. Mornings are loud, busy, and full of life — exactly how it should be.
Raising this litter has been a joy, and we feel incredibly lucky to watch them grow every single day here in Cork, Ireland. We do still have a few puppies available, and we’re taking the time to carefully match them with the right forever homes.
